Roker sits about 3 miles north-east of central Sunderland in the SR6 postcode, right on the coast. It's a mix of large Victorian and Edwardian terraces closer to the seafront, some converted into flats, plus 1970s council-built semis further inland. We get called out here for everything from seaside flat lockouts to broken front door locks on the bigger period houses. The coastal air does no favours to lock mechanisms, so we see a lot of corrosion-related failures.

We come in along the A183 Queen Alexandra Road or drop down through Fulwell Road depending on where you are. Roker Avenue and Roker Terrace have some of the oldest door furniture in the area, lots of original wooden frames with mortice locks that haven't been touched in decades. The streets around Roker Park and down towards the seafront are a conservation headache for owners who want to upgrade security without clashing with period aesthetics. Roker's salty air genuinely wrecks euro cylinders faster than almost anywhere else we cover.

Most common Roker jobs

  • Lockouts from converted Victorian flats on Roker Terrace, typically 20-25 minutes from our base
  • Corroded or seized mortice locks on large Edwardian front doors, often needing full replacement
  • Anti-snap cylinder upgrades on 1970s semis around Roker Park Road after break-in attempts
  • Multipoint lock repairs on uPVC doors, common on the mid-2000s conversions near the seafront
  • Sash window lock fitting and servicing on the older period houses closer to the promenade
  • Landlord lock changes between tenancies on the HMOs and holiday-let flats around the seafront

Roker FAQ

Yes, genuinely. Salt air accelerates corrosion inside euro cylinders and mortice mechanisms, especially on properties directly facing the seafront. If your lock is stiff, grinding or the key is getting harder to turn, it's worth us coming to look before it fails completely and locks you out. We can swap in a corrosion-resistant cylinder and give the mechanism a proper service while we're there.
